projects

These are some projects that I've done, or that I'm working on, that are fun or useful or whatever. I hope you like them.

  • SVG animated analog clock - a simple analog clock, drawn in Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) format, animated with Javascript. It works for me in Firefox 2.0.0.x natively, and in Opera 9.x and Internet Explorer 6 with Adobe's SVG plugin, under Windows 2000 and XP; it may work for you. If you have problems with it, feel free to let me know, but I use this for my own personal thing, so I don't promise to fix it for you. It's released as is, into the public domain.

Another version, functionally the same but with fancier-looking hands.

More fancier design (still works the same way):

Even more fancier design (works the same way, but has an additional moon dial)

  • U.S. Navy clipart - Various things, mostly rank or ratings insignia.
  • Fonts - I've done several Truetype fonts, for fun or for various projects.
  • Says-It.com - home of the Church Sign Generator, Vinyl Record Generator, Concert Ticket Generator, George Says, and several other image generators.
  • God Hates Shrimp :: Joe Decker and I did this as kind of a parody of Fred Phelps and his "god hates fags" crew. These protestors are out there with their signs saying "god hates fags" and quoting from the book of Leviticus. Well, quoting from Leviticus is ridiculous for two reasons. The first reason is that Jesus established the New Covenant, which stated that the old Mosaic laws about unclean things were invalid (Jesus in his own person said nothing specifically against homosexuality, although Paul later attributed some remarks to him). The second reason is that if you still want to quote from Leviticus, despite Jesus' doing away with Mosaic law, then you better be prepared to enforce the whole thing, not just the parts you don't like. This includes not only the injunction against shellfish and mussels and such, but also against wearing fabrics made of blended fibers, cutting or shaving your beard, sowing mixed seed in a field, and a bunch of other things nobody takes seriously anymore, except maybe Orthodox Jews.

Plus it was a really silly, funny idea, so we just did it.
  • Utils :: a few simple web-based utilities that duplicate things you can do on the Unix command line. I made them for myself for when I didn't necessarily have shell access.
  • Yet another LiveJournal image scraper (two versions - one shows images full-size with next/previous links, the other shows them as thumbnails). Caution: lots of images, and many of them contain nudity or adult language. Here's the source code. There are lots of these things around, but I decided to make one because I wanted to try out PHP's XML parser functions. I added some nifty user interface features that I've not seen on the others, though.

More projects are in the works!

Sometimes You Have To Wonder About These Folks
OPP notices Mark Levin, vicious attack poodle of the Right going all anti-semitic on John Stewart of the Daily show. The Irony? Levin is Jewish too. Go figure.
Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Winner
Sean Tevis is a progressive Democrat and web geek living in Kansas. He's had enough of his anti-gay, pro-life, pro-censorship, pro-wire-tapping state representative and has decided to run against him. You can help!

President George Bush: 'Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter'
"He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock." I wish this was an Onion link, but sadly, it isn't.

A little knowledge can go a long way
VERY NSFW, but pretty funny just the same. A commercial for an English language school.

Get Drunk And Vote 4 McCain
Voting for McCain, but still don't feel like he's conservative enough? Have a drink to ease the pain. This may be the funniest (or at least, the most *intentionally* funny) conservative blog I've ever seen; they post news stories and tidbits and rate them by how many cocktails it takes to ease the pain of John McCain's incipient Alzheimer's, maladroitness, and closet liberalism.

McDonald's Ad: "I'm Lovin' It When China Wins"
Reason no. 6 564 437 why I'll never step into a McDonalds. Not even if I were starving and they paid me to eat BACON! while getting a fantastic fellatio of fish from a stacked blonde. This doesn't particularly piss me off, because I expect corporations to act like pigs since their only allegiance is to themselves. Hasn't failed me yet...
Write In Bush 2008
"The important thing to understand about so-called 'term limits' is that they are man's law, not God's Law. The God who parted the Red Sea is surely not worried about so-called 'term limits'. When you vote your faith you let Almighty God take care of the details." I'm sure this is a parody site. Well, pretty sure.

The Persevering Perfidy of Patriotism: Puzzling?
WNBA Becky Harmon is being called a 'traitor' because she will play on the Russian team in the Olympics. Wilton D. Alston begs to differ.
Crazy Jesus Guy gives up on Jesus in disgust (NSFW for language)
Poor Leon has suffered for his beliefs, only to find that Jesus didn't return when He said He would. Now Leon has had enough. (NSFW for naughty language.)

Man wears patriotism on his sleeve and face

Atheists Discriminated Against in Child Custody Cases
"Imagine if Christians were commonly denied custody of their own children by judges who declared that attendance at Christian churches and maintaining a Christian education were contrary to the children's best interests. The outcry against such a violation of basic liberties would be incredible -- and the Christians would be right to be so upset."

Seizure of belongings leaves new homeowners baffled, angry
An immigrant couple who recently closed on their first house in America came home from work to find that the mortgage company had seized all their property, including all their personal belongings, due to a bookkeeping snafu. Over 6 weeks later, their belongings haven't been returned and the mortgage company hasn't reimbursed the family for their loss.

Marriage Protection Amendment resolution introduced... by Larry Craig and David Vitter
You may remember Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig (R-ID) and Sen. David "John" Vitter (R-LA) from their arrests for soliciting sex in an airport bathroom and being a patron of the DC Madam's prostitution ring respectively.

If This Doesn't Prove Bush Is A Horse's Behind, Nothing Does.
Bush compliments the Filipino president for his White House chef. These are the first words that came out of his mouth - ignoring the typhoon and the sinking of the ferry that carried 800 people in the Philippines.
